Ways Vinegar Will Come In Handy Around The House
By now many people know that vinegar has many more uses than putting in salad dressing. It is an excellent tool for cleaning, and many people have also started to incorporate it into their beauty routines. Even as it has become popularized for such purposes in recent years (which is really just a return to the way that our grandmothers did things), there are many more uses for vinegar than most people are aware of.
Once you know what vinegar can do, you will be buying it in bulk and treating it like a true household necessity. Read on for four great, unusual household hacks with vinegar that you never would have guessed.
Use Vinegar For Cracked Eggs
It can be annoying if you accidentally crack an egg and then have to throw it out. Unless you plan to use it right away, the whites will start to leak out and it is a better idea to put it in the garbage than in the fridge. However, like so many things, a cracked egg is nothing that a little vinegar can’t take care of. With this trick, you’ll save yourself from having to toss cracked eggs, and you’ll wonder why you didn’t learn this sooner.
To recover your cracked egg, toss it into a pan with enough water to cover it, and put two teaspoons of vinegar into it. Bring it to a boil and you’ll see that the vinegar will prevent any leakage from the egg, and now you get to snack on this boiled egg rather than having a raw egg rot away in the trash.
Use Vinegar To Get Fruit Juice Off Your Hand
Sometimes when you cut and eat pomegranate or other colorful, juicy fruits you end up with your hands looking like a Jackson Pollock painting. When you rinse them off, you will find that the color lingers on, and you will have to scrub your hands with soap, rinse, and repeat for a few minutes to get all the color out. This is not an ideal process, especially as using so much soap will dry out your hands, but you can get the stains off without a fuss just by using vinegar.
At this point, it shouldn’t be a surprise to know that rubbing a bit of vinegar onto your hands will get the color right off, as well as any lingering scents from the fruits. Beyond just your hands, vinegar will work with any stains on your clothes as well. To make this work, put vinegar in while doing laundry, putting in one teaspoon as well as half of a teaspoon of detergent.
Use Vinegar To Keep The Color From Fading On Your Clothes
It is never a good feeling to watch the color get duller every time you wash your clothes, but vinegar is a good way to keep that from happening. With vinegar, you can keep your clothes looking as vibrant and fresh as the day you bought them.
Give your clothes a wash on the medium cycle with cold water and vinegar, and don’t put any detergent. This acts as a way to sort of lock the color into your clothes. Give it a shot, and you’ll find your clothes are lasting longer than they did before.
Use Vinegar To Unclog Your Iron
From time to time you may find your iron to get clogged with mineral deposits, and just as you guessed, vinegar is the way to fix it. To do so, make a solution that is half distilled what vinegar and half water, and put that into the iron’s reservoir.
Keep the iron placed vertically, with its pointed side in an upward position, and then put the steam setting on. Leave it for roughly five minutes, and afterwards turn it off, wait for it to cool, and drain the reservoir. Then as the water drains the mineral residue that built up will drain with it.
