Nothing is better than the smell of freshly baked bread, cake, or whatever other delicacy that catches your fancy, and there’s a reason that so many people fall for the romance of baking. Whether you are a novice or highly skilled, baking can be a total joy as you watch something transform from a lump of flour and some other ingredients into a beautiful, fully finished product.

Baking goes beyond just making something you and your family and friends can eat. It is a way to destress, focus on something, and have a great time. However, there can be frustrations, especially when things don’t go your way. No matter your skill level, there are plenty of hacks that will make baking easier, faster, and cheaper. Read on for four helpful baking tips that will slash times and cut costs.

Use Tin Foil

Too many bakers that are just starting out are unaware of just how helpful tin foil is to your baking repertoire. It especially comes in handy when you lack a baking sheet that is the perfect size for what you wish to make.

With tin foil, you get to customize the size of your baking sheet, giving you the freedom to bake whatever you want. On top of that, the low cost of tin foil means you will save quite a bit of cash from having to purchase an additional baking sheet.

Make Your Own Frosting Colors

Sometimes you will look at a picture of something you wish you could make and feel powerless as you lack the assortment of colors that the pros have to make their cakes dazzle. However, you have more colors at your disposal than you realize. All you have to do is make them yourself.

How do you do that? Go back to your primary school art classes when you learned about mixing colors. You don’t need to buy purple frosting when a quick mix of red and blue will do the trick. Play around with your different colors in different proportions and see what you can make. Chances are you have a full rainbow of colors in front of you, all you need are a few basics to get started.

Keep Your Eggs At Room Temperature

Depending on where you live, it may be totally normal to store your eggs outside of the fridge. In the United States, eggs are sanitized before they reach customers, and as a result of that process they must be stored in the fridge. In other countries, storing them outside is totally acceptable. This is good news for bakers, because room temperature eggs are actually the best for baking as it makes them fluffier than if they are stored in the fridge.

The reason for this is because they get more air in them when at room temperature. This will result in baked goods that are extra moist. So if you normally keep your eggs in the fridge, let them sit outside for a short time to warm up a bit before you use them. You may find your cakes to be airier than ever. Better yet, make two batches, one with eggs just out the fridge and one with them warmed up and see how they compare.

Use Vanilla Pudding To Make Cookies

Next time you see some vanilla pudding at the store, put it into your shopping cart, even if you don’t like pudding at all. You don’t have to eat it, but store it away for the next time you bake some cookies. No, you won’t be eating them together (unless you really want to…), rather you will be mixing it in with your cookie dough.

It may sound weird, but this will result in the sort of perfectly soft cookie that you always dream about but can never seem to get right. Give it a shot, and you may never even think about making cookies without vanilla pudding again.
