You may not realize that TikTok, despite being a disturbingly addictive time waster, is also a great educational tool. If you use it properly, which can require plenty of determination, discipline, and mental fortitude, you will find plenty that you can learn about the world, including excellent practical advice that you can apply to your daily life.

The short doses of TikTok means you don’t need a self help book to learn valuable lessons on becoming more productive, efficient, and organized as well as less wasteful and frustrated, sometimes with tricks that will save you time, money, and energy as you do ordinary household things. Read on for four lessons that we learned from the popular video app.

Squeeze Lemon Juice Without Cutting The Lemon

This might sound like a crazy magic trick, but it is totally possible to squeeze the juice out of a lemon without ever having to cut into it. All you have to do is poke hole into the lemon, and then if you give it a good squeeze you will be delighted to discover how well it juices. This will save you plenty of time and will keep you from having to clean up various utensils, and you will have easy access to a wonderful and healthy ingredient that will give numerous dishes and drinks the citrusy kick that they need.

To poke a good hole, a chopstick will come in handy, and you want to dig it in fairly deep, as puncturing just the surface won’t be enough to let the juice flow. After that, ball it in your hand and squeeze it into a glass. Tah-dah! Just like magic.

Clasp Your Necklaces Together So They Line Up Evenly

You may get irritated when you wear more than one necklace at a time, because despite how perfectly they may look together in your head, they never seem to line up the right way in real life. However, as we learned from a handy TikTok video, there is a way to clasp them so that they are in perfect coordination.

You can link the necklaces together by connecting their clasps rather than clasping each necklace individually. After doing this, you will be able to adjust their lengths however you please. With this trick, you will have no more misaligned necklaces to drive you crazy.

Wash And Dry Your Greens Before Storing Them

While not everybody can properly appreciate them, fresh, crisp, and vibrant greens are a culinary treat, but sadly they have a short shelf life. Greens are at their best when they are freshly picked, and even in the fridge they will quickly wilt and look quite lifeless. This is fine for soup, but if you want a salad or any other dish where freshness is a necessity, you will be sad to discover some dull looking greens sometimes just a day after you bought them.

However, there is a great way you can extend the shelf life of greens, it just requires a bit more effort than what you usually put in when you put your produce away after grocery shopping. Before you put them away, wash your greens, dry them, and keep them wrapped in a paper towel before storing them in a ziploc, tupperware, or wherever else you prefer to store them. You will find that this keeps them nice and fresh, and your days of sad, dull greens just days after buying them are over.

Reuse Your Candle Containers

We all want to find ways to reduce waste, and doing so is both eco-friendly as well as pocket-friendly. However, it can be hard to break old habits, and oftentimes we just are not aware of the many ways that we are able to reuse what is right in front of us. Luckily, a TikTok video has taught us a wonderful way we can reuse the containers for candles.

It definitely is not something we would have thought of on our own, but once it was pointed out to us it seems so obvious. If you buy a candle, rather than throwing the container out once it has burned down, you can instead clean it out and use it as a jar. Cleaning the wax can be tough, but it becomes much easier if you put boiling water into it.
